The Seed Project

We use any opportunity to use a seed blend in our designs. We have found the outcome to be a captivating landscape characterized by depth, diversity, and beauty. Starting this year we are tracking what seed blends we plant and then the outcomes of that planting over the following years to build a data set of regional-specific seed blends.

One of the primary advantages of utilizing seed blends lies in the sheer joy of seeing a blend grow. Through the careful selection and blending of seeds, we can achieve multiple layers of vegetation, each possessing unique characteristics and undergoing seasonal transformations not expected in the settings we place them in.

Moreover, the integration of diverse seed blends contributes to the ecological well-being of the landscape. By incorporating a wide variety of plant species, we foster biodiversity and provide support for local ecosystems. The resulting habitat can become a sanctuary or pit stop for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.

The seed blends are designed for different soil types and climatic conditions to reduce maintenance, water use, and fertilizers. This is a shift in perspective for many of our clients. Creating a space within the landscape where only seasonal management is needed and a little bit of ‘wild’ is allowed to creep in.

By breaking free from conventional norms, seed blends infuse life into outdoor spaces, showing the passage of time in a new way where each day brings something new to the landscape.

Follow along with us as we continue to dive into how seed blends can be utilized on all scales in the landscape from small urban residential projects to large master plans. We will be sure to share our data, what works and what doesn’t with you.
